The ” Be Smart with Body Art” educational campaign is sponsored by the UC Davis Cancer Center/Sacramento State Partnership and is the result of a study conducted on both the University of California, Davis and Sacramento State University campuses in 2008. the sturdy found that the majority of students were not aware of the risk factors for acquiring the Hepatitis C virus (HCV) or the potential long-term effects (liver disease and liver cancer); especially the risk for acquiring viral blood diseases from tattooing and body piercing. The ” Be Smart with Body Art” educational campaign was designed by students and celebrates the tradition of body art–simply reminding us to “be smart” when we are acquire a tattoo or body piercing by asking 5 important questions.
